Attack on Titan Movie Review

(This post was from my older blog which I have already deleted.)

Shingeki no Kyojin / Attack on Titan is one of the best-selling manga in Japan and became a mainstream anime across the globe. No wonder why a live action film was made about these humans trying to defy their fate of being stuck inside the walls and being a prey of the giants/titans.

The movie has been rolling out the cinemas for almost two weeks now in Japan while it premiered in the Philippines yesterday August 12, 2015.

There were lots of criticisms and bashing about this movie even before the movie was released. So yesterday, I headed to the nearest cinema and watched the movie myself. (This is the first time I've watched a movie alone!)

Spoiler alert!

First of all, I wanted to say that the actors were good. I love how Hanji and Sasha's actresses portrayed the characters. The titans were definitely scary although I find their faces ridiculous!

Here comes the sad part. The movie tends to be a little bit off with the manga. It's not that I wanted the movie to be exactly as it was in the manga but there was a major twist of story in the movie. Junked helicopters, trucks instead of horse carriages, junked missle, more advanced weapons than the 3D maneuver gear? Fine. That would be acceptable for me since they still used their "ODMG" for slaying titans. But altering some parts of the story especially on Mikasa's part put me in a total dismay.

A lot of characters were also missing especially Levi and Erwin. And who the hell is this Captain Shikishima trying to steal the spotlight from Levi(by being a God-like murderer of titans) and Sasha(by eating apples). He even had like a love interest for Mikasa. I hate him even though he kills titans with a breeze. There's this Hiana girl too.

Now I understand why a lot of people were enraged with the movie. It was really unexpected and not the Attack on Titan everyone was expecting it to be because of some changes in the story. But it was definitely a gore film and it wouldn't be Attack on Titan without blood splattering everywhere!

Overall, the movie was fine but I hate how the plot was altered. Lol!

There will be a part two of the movie somewhere in September. Would you still care to watch it inspite of the bad reviews?

I would.

Hell, it's Attack on Titan. I wonder if the second part would give justice on the first part. I hope the second one would be better! Anyhow, I'd still like to congratulate everyone who's behind the movie.

(This is my personal review. No hate. Just read.)
