It's A Merry Christmas in Dagupan City This 2019

It's the time of the year once again! Christmas—the brightest and happiest season of the year. And when we say Christmas in the Philippines, that means well-decorated malls, cities glittering with colorful lights parks and plazas with giant Christmas trees.

Did you know that Christmas season in the Philippines begin on September 1st? Yes, we celebrate Christmas the longest. And if you are a Filipino, you know why Jose Mari Chan is very popular during Christmas season, especially on September 1.

Moving on, I will be sharing to you this wonderful and viral bridge Christmas lights in Dagupan City this year. Residents of the city and from nearby towns look forward each year of what the bridge's Christmas lights would look like. Some years were okay, and there were years where it was ridiculed by many. But this year's design looks like it got the approval, with very high satisfaction, of the public. Well, it was even featured on a national television news.

Last November 12, two bridges of Dagupan City were officially lighted which coincided with the lighting of a huge Christmas tree at the city plaza, signifying the beginning of Christmas season in the city. The bridge you see below is the Quintos bridge. The Magsaysay bridge on the other hand, have a more simple design but still look wonderful.

If you look closer at the design, you'll see the bangus (milk fish) which greatly represents the city. In case you didn't know, Dagupan City is best known for its delicious bangus and is known as the Bangus Capital of the World. This is not an exaggeration, but Dagupan bangus has a delicious taste that is different from anywhere else. You should try Dagupan bangus if you still haven't tasted one, or try visiting the city on April for the "Kalutan ed Dalan" (Bangusan Street Party) during the Bangus Festival.

Using the basic colors is a good choice for it is pleasing to the eyes, and that star on the side added beauty to it. The color combination plus the star even made it look like the Philippine flag, don't you think?

The photos I've taken were shot on November 12, the night the lights were officially switched. I just happened to pass by the area on my way home after going to a mall for a haircut. There was a slight traffic congestion before the bridge as there were many people walking on the sides taking selfies and groufies. People gathering on the area to take photos just proves how much delighted they are of the decoration. The jeepney driver who we assume to be irritated of traffic was surprisingly just calm. Everyone was just probably happy passing by this eye candy bridge with uplifting colors.

Here's a short video of the bridge. I wasn't able to shot the whole area as I am inside the jeepney and I fear sticking my phone out because, you know, who knows a thief is just around the corner. Lol. It's better to be careful than regret it later on!

How the bridge looks like from afar. There were also some arches with green and red colors which added a cute touch the the overall design of the bridge.

Meanwhile, here's what can be seen in front of the city plaza—a huge Christmas tree. My godmother said the tree was 30 feet tall. Earlier before I passed by the plaza, there was a lighting ceremony attended by city officials and locals. From what I heard, there were also choirs who sang to make the ceremony more festive. The event was already over when I passed by, only the people taking photos of the tree were present then. Aside from the bridge, the Christmas tree in also have well-thought of design. It has an intricate design that would make one stare at it for quite some time. Too bad I can only take a photo from afar.

Well, that's pretty much what you can see in the city this Christmas aside from the year-round multi-colored bridge at the new De Venecia Highway and Foodstrip and bargains at the city proper.

(I wasn't able to take photos of the Magsaysay bridge because the jeepney was already jam-packed, I can no longer move at ease to take a photo. Maybe next time!)

Merry Christmas!
