I Won A Fan Art Contest by Star Hunt ABS CBN!

Most of the drawings I make are fan arts particularly fan arts for my favorite Japanese pop rock singer, LiSA. (Check out my drawings on Instagram: @takyarts or you can also tweet to me on Twitter: @takyarts) I have joined drawing contests before but never joined a fan art contest yet.

Earlier this year, I got amused by two Pinoy Big Brother housemates namely YamYam and Fumiya. They're funny together or alone and have a very strong friendship which I really admired. They understand each other rarely through words, due to language barrier, but through actions and eyes. That is why they call each other, Spiritual Brothers. They have a special connection no one can explain.

So one day, while scrolling on Twitter, I saw a tweet from Star Hunt about a fan art contest for FumiYam. There's no prize for it, just exposure for the winner/s. Star Hunt is the audition camp of ABS CBN for aspiring artists who wanted to join the network's programs and show their talents to the world.

Honestly, I am hesitant to join the contest due to laziness. Lol kidding! I joined one of their fan art contest before and didn't win so that's why I became hesitant on this one. But my mind was pushing me to draw and my it won't stop running in my head unless I make on.

And so I drew.. a few hours before the deadline. Haha!

Well, I am used to cramming so I was able to submit my entry a few minutes before the deadline. I drew a simple chibi (chibi is easier to draw, plus they're cute) of Fumiya and YamYam doing their popular pose adding text bubbles with words "Pogi!" My goal for this art is comic style. I just wish I was able to do it effectively and convinced people of the comic style.

I wasn't really expecting much of winning this time because I lost on my first entry. Surprisingly, when you least expect it, chances turn to your favor. I was really surprised to received a notification from Star Hunt telling me that I won their contest.

It is not much for some but it really means a lot for me. There were actually two winners. The other was by an artist I really admire. As an amateur and unpopular artist, I am very happy to win this little contest by a popular institution. I am a struggling artist and winning this contest have paved way for more people to know that my art exists. This then inspired me to do more fan arts about them and their most-admired friendship, LAYF. Honestly, making LAYF fan arts is so much fun! I just wish I have the energy, time, and motivation to draw a lot.

I also shared the post by Star Hunt on Facebook but I was first scared that I would get ridiculed for making fan art. I was wrong. My family and friends appreciated it and love it.

Having your drawings noticed or rewarded, undoubtedly, is what makes an artist feel appreciated and motivated to challenge himself or herself to do more and better art next time. We create art to express ideas and inspire people. If this is not met, then we become a little sad but still continue drawing anyway. Lol. ...Until our art reaches people's hearts. :)

Anyway, before I end this blog, let me spill to you one mistake I did on the fan art.

Can you guess what it is?

Well, I just forgot adding a shine on YamYam's eyes. Haha! If you noticed Fumiya's eyes, there are two white dots on each of his eyes. Meanwhile, it is missing on YamYam's eyes. Wow, most of the time I really forget some things on my art which I regret later on once I've posted my art. One of the artist's problems, indeed! But despite that, I am still happy of my fan art's outcome and what matters most is I won the contest. Hihi!
