SALE!!!, the world we've always wish to see when shopping. Recently, the much-awaited global 11.11 sale happened which was participated by establishments and online shopping sites. Products go on big discounts, delighting people, causing them to spend more than they intended to and buying items they don't really need.
11.11 sale is probably a compulsive buyer's weakness, especially when he knows that he have much money he can spend. "This bathrobe looks nice and comfy, I can use this when I go on vacation. I'll buy it." or "These jackets are cheap and look very comfy, I can wear these when I travel. I'll buy it." In the end, you just stock them in your cabinet and never use them because the robe was too thick you'd rather bring a small towel to save space in your bag and use your old scarf instead because jackets are too bulky.
See, this is what we get when we buy things just because they're on sale and actually not thinking about the purpose of these things. Later on, we wish that we should've just saved our money for more important things.
Saving money is really difficult when shopping is difficult to resist. Everyone suffers from it. But no worries! I will share to you some tips how you can become a better consumer.
BE A BETTER CONSUMER!
■ Stay Away From The Source Itself
Reject! And don't ever try to look back! Haha! How strict and negative it sounds, it's the best way to refrain from being tempted to buy unnecessary things. Log out from the website and unpin it on your browser's tab; and most especially, delete the app on your phone. We check our phones every now and then, so it is best to remove online shopping apps to completely remove your attention from browsing potential items to purchase or buying compulsively just because you feel happy or sad.
■ Keep Your Money Away
It is true for most of us that when we have enough money lying around our wallet, we are tempted to buy the things we want to have. The best thing to do to stop yourself from buying things you don't actually need is to manage your money well and have a solid purpose for saving it. Don't just save for the sake of saving it, intend it for something, else, it will be spend on random unnecessary things.
Another method to do is to keep a separate account for your savings from the account you use regularly. In that way, you'll learn to budget your finances better and restrict yourself from spending your savings because seeing more numbers in our account can fool us that it is alright to spend little. When this becomes our thinking, our savings will get depleted in time and it will be too late when we realize it. Later on, we regret because our "little" expenses have compromised our long term goals succumbing most of us in misery.
■ Judge
Last on the list, and the most important thing to have is to develop a sense of judgement or being a wise spender. If you have this within you, then temptations can never get to you no matter how enticing they are to you. Always ask yourself, "What is the purpose of this thing to my life?" If the reason is not much necessary, don't buy it.
However, there will also be times that we really feel the urge of buying something. What do we do if it becomes irresistible? The solution for this is to give yourself a few days to think, then go back to the item and see whether you still feel the same need of purchasing it. Sometimes we just get our emotions to control us and get pressured by the Fear of Missing Out or what they call FOMO.
Don't get pressured by society. Know your money's purpose.
If you want better knowledge and tips about handling your money, I recommend you to read the book "The Richest Man in Babyblon" by George Clason. It's a good book you'll never want to miss!
